Back To The 80's

I wasn't around much in the 80's actually.. And no, it wasn't because I was too busy partying to notice a decade pass by, but because I was born in 1988, the 90's happened before I got a chance to say. ”Whatchu talkin' 'bout, Willis? ”

A lot of stuff happened during the 80's, as it does in any other decade, and most of it is stuff I have no knowledge of whatsoever... Therefore, I see very little reason to go into politics and economics.

Let's instead talk a little about the fashion of this particular time in history, shall we?

Quite a few hairstyles became popular during this era, like the perm and mullet. It had to be big.. The bigger the better..

At the same time, movies and music videos heavily inspired the fashion industry. Movies like Top Gun made the aviators incredibly popular, and Madonna sent the World into a faux jewelry frenzy.. As with the hair, you had better go big or go home. Bright and over the top is what you'll see with a single google search..

But enough about that. There is 10 years to go over if we have to cover it all, and you don't want to read all that.

I Want Candy

Do you have a sweet tooth? I think most people do, whether they want to admit it or not.

There's always something, isn't there? That particular piece of candy we just can't live without, as well as the one we can't stand.

For me, it's liqourice.. I'm such a sucker for good liqourice. I think it might have something to do with the fact that it was THAT particular piece of candy you'd always find in our house when I was growing up. My mom loved it.. My dad loved it. Coincidence? I'm not sure.

Granted, it's not the most visually stunning piece of candy out there. When you walk into a candyshop, it's most likely the array of colours from lollipops and gumdrops you'll spot first.

And I have to admit, it was the pretty colours that made me choose the rainbow version of Faylinn's candy swirl wings for this post.

No Hate

Having grown up in a small European county, I think I've lived a pretty sheltered life.

I remember posting in a thread on Reddit once, where we were talking about what others thought of our individual countries. Not surprisingly, what most people thought about when I mentioned Denmark, was beer and prostitutes.

It sounds horrible when it's mentioned without context, but what is referred to, is of course our major breweries like Tuborg and Calsberg, and the fact that it's legal for prostitution to be your main source of income.

But I do think there are other things that Denmark should be known for. In 1952, American Marine Soldier George W. Jorgensen travelled to Denmark, and became the first person who got widely known for having sex reassignment  surgery. He could later leave the country as Christine.

Denmark is also the first country in the World that made it possible for same sex couples to enter registred partnership.

Am I saying that hate against bi/homo/trans-sexuals doesn't happen here?

No.. I can't promise such a thing. Sadly. 

I would love for anyone to be able to stand up and say, "I live in a hate free world". But instead, we live on a planet where people are being judged based on the person they love and/or are attracted to. 

No matter your skin tone, sexuality, religion.. etc, you should be able to choose your partner and not worry about people's opinion.

Cause in the end, it really shouldn't matter.

If You Liked It, Then You Should Have Put A Ring On It

When it comes to accessories, I have to admit, I'm a sucker for rings. From simple silver bands to big fake jewelry, I don't care. If they fit on my finger, I'll wear them proudly.

When I was younger, like maybe 13-15 years old, I would wear a ring on each and every finger, cause in my brilliant teenage mind, I thought that would look stylish.

Here's a free tip for ya... It doesn't.

As I'm getting older, I've taken a much more simple approach to jewelry of any sort. I have two silver rings that I never take off. They've been on my right ringfinger for at least 5 years, and yes, I do check regularly that they haven't grown overly attached to my skin. 

When I was 7, I got my ears pierced, and as time's gone by, I've got a few more holes added in my lobes.

When I was 19, I did something that I'd never imagine doing in a million years. I got my tongue pierced. 

Even though I was an adult and living on my own, a part of me was terrified to tell my parents. So I go home to visit them, and I show them the piercing. I still remember my mother's shocked voice saying, "Penny?? Why did you do that to your tongue?"

And somehow, my brain managed to come up with, "I liked it, so I put a ring on it".

Full Time to Floatin'... Under The Sea

Logging into Second Life, I usually find myself doing the same thing over and over again. Let's face it.. Shopping is somewhere around the top of that list.

So experiencing something completely new; visiting a new place, meeting new people, is something I haven't really taken the time to do lately. Speaking to my loved ones, I notice that it's the same with them.

Even in a place like SL, where every option is available with a single search and teleport, we find ourselves in the same club, at the same beach, with the same people. At least we know that those places and people are awesome, right?

Well, here is my advice for you. Do you want to see something truly spectacular? Then the magnificent ruins of an ancient atlantean style civilisation awaits you.

Nestled beneath the sprawling waters of The Blake sea, from Acropolis style monuments to the caves and houses of the Mer people, the sea bed of The Blake has something to make even the most well-travelled avatar stop and stare. 

As well as the various buildings and caves, The Blake is also filled with wildlife.

Sharks (no lazers), Octopi (can we just call them octopuppies?), Turtles and so much more, can all be found swimming freely around the bright blue waters. You might even spot a mermaid or two.

So snap on your swimsuit, flappers and goggles, strap on your oxygen tank and go for a swim under the waves.

You might just be surprised.

Hello Dolly - Part 2

You know that thing when the Universe seems to be messing with you? I have that at the moment.. 

After having experienced some issues with my Photoshop, and gotten very little help from the kind people at Adobe, I thought I had it fixed. But now, it would seem that I was wrong.

Therefore, my point of this blog post might seem moot. 

Lol. Moot. It's a good word, no?

Anyways. 

My point with this entire post, was to redo an earlier post. 

No matter what you do in life, real AND second, you improve. In some cases, it might not be a whole lot, and in other cases, your improvement is so evident that you can't help but look at your older stuff and think,

"what the hell was I even trying to do?"

I've had this blog for half a year now, and I do see an improvement. In my writing and in my photos.

So when Mama Toast released her Dolly Keys, I figured it would be an excellent time to prove my progress and make a Part 2 to my "Hello Dolly" post from February.

Aaah.. February. When I had my mesh head and the weather was colder. Good times. Good times.

And then my freaking Photoshop decides to mess up. Naturally. Nothing is ever so easy that we can't crank up the volume and make it harder.

So now, Gimp has to become my new best friend. At least for a while. *Shakes my fist*

Does anyone know where to purchase a sturdy sledgehammer? No? Anyone?

Well, it matters little anyways. What matters is the Dolly Keys from Buttery Toast. They come in a dark and light version, in a small and big size, with plenty of colours and a rotating script.

This week could be considered my lazy week or, as is more the case now, the week of remembering that with my introduction I didn't actually show anyone what I personally looked like. Though the reason might have been the end of fantasy gacha nearing and my wish to show the centaur I'd just created. I figured I could possibly even show my very own face here. 

This avatar of mine has always been an elf, so when I last chose to create a new look for him, I naturally started from the ears. Mandala has for some time been an amazing store for your regular mesh ears, normal and pierced, and a while ago they came up with a set of elven ears. The ears in my opinion all all worth their cost simply in terms of quality and customization, yet if you feel like the pierced ones are too expensive, you could always get the simple ones and create your own piercings. It's always fun to make something completely your own. :)

In manner of the rest of the body, I came across a store named Elysium, at first I was there checking out a pair of pants, but ended up leaving with a new skin of theirs. Which all in all was a pleasant surprise. And in case of my hair and tattoos... I love to inspect what other people wear, best way to come across new creators if there ever is one, and with this curiosity I came across [INK] with it's selection of male and female hairs, plenty worth checking out. With tattoos I've found it a nice and creative use of mesh to get past the SL problem of both arms sharing the same texture, and now can actually get yourself a tattoo on just one arm which allows plenty of options, combining different sleeves or simply settling with one and Marketplace seems to currently be the best place for finding these. 

And that's about it I think. Oh.. clothes. Redgrave and Ronsem are both stores I check at regular intervals. If you have not heard of them before, I highly recommend checking them out. Redgrave providing skins, hair and eyes as well as quality mesh clothing.

When I was a kid, my favourite dress was a pink one that my grandfather gave me for my birthday. It was my most priced possession for years and when I grew out of it, I was so heartbroken, I told my mom I wanted to be little again so I could wear it.

Growing up, that dress has always been one that I'd think back to, especially after my grandfather died, and wished I could wear just one more time... And now I've managed to find one in Second Life that actually resembles it a little bit. 

How awesome is that? XD

So thank you to .Atomic. for bringing back happy memories. This dress comes in four different colours with a matching ice cream cone handbag, and can be found at this round of Chapter 4.

Sidenote: I'm got hungry just typing that #nomnom 

As you can probably tell, I am once again wearing Yara's Band from .:Buttery Toast:. but wait, something is different isn't it?

Fly Like a Butterfly

Are you ready? I want to tell you a secret... I can not dance.

In Second Life, it's easy of course. Just the click of a button and I'm a freaking champion, but in real life I'm far too clumsy not to step on my partner's toes. Dancing on my own doesn't work any better for me. My own two feet are my enemies when it comes to moving rhythmically and NOT tripping over themselves.

It'd be nice if I could tell you I move like a butterfly, but that would certainly be a lie. Not a tiny white lie, but a huge made up fairytale.

So when I get the chance to move light as a feather in virtual reality, how can I possibly resist?

And then Faylinn creates these adorable butterfly headbands called "Yara's Band" which just gives me another opportunity to lie to you good folks of SL and pretend I'm a classy, elegant and softspoken lady, when in reality I would have cussed loudly, broken 3 toes and an arm by now.

What can I say Mamma Toast, other than thank you for making me a pretty butterfly for the day ♥

I've Got You Under My Skin

From the time I was able to actually buy a skin myself, I stuck

to Glam Affair because it was recommended to me. Then I read a lot about Pink Fuel skin, and decided to try those out. I've never actually searched for any other before now, and boy am I happy I did. I don't want you to get me wrong. Glam Affair and Pink Fuel have some of the  most stunning skins, but I am now adding Essences to that list.

If you've been following this blog at all, you will have seen how terrible I am at sticking to my shape and skin. Whether it's because I get bored, or simply because I enjoy the option of change, I honestly can't tell you. I have no idea.

Second Life gives us so many options, it's sometimes hard to choose. Where to go? What to buy? What to do? 

In my opinion, there is no right answer. We all have our choice, and some people will find them strange no matter what. 

I for one, have to admit that it's the child avis I find difficult to understand. But as time have moved on, and I've gotten a little older, I see the joy it brings the parents of those children, to have them in their lives, and with that I can't dispute.

I might just stick with my pets for now though if that's okay? ^^

Got my Djinni in a Bottle

This time I decided to work on the looks of my alt. It having been least four months he had had the previous look so, in my restless eyes, it was about time for a change. 

As I have a heavily modded mesh body for use with him, the only thing I myself can make a change in is with the face and hair so I've started creating looks with piercings and face tattoos, in addition to a quality skin and hair, and when ever I am in need of quality piercings nowadays, I find myself heading for Haus of Darcy, - .HoD. -, which has quality piercings with quite a few of them directed for role players so there are more excotic styles for offer, quite a few of them coming with complimentary face tattoos. I admit I ended up buying a few different ones, but for this look I chose the Cathaoirmore, for in combination with the Nivaro skin (they have wonderful faces) seems to give the avatar a more eastern look and in combination with the mesh dreadlocks from Tableau Vivant (another store I visit too often), it seemed to me, what I was destined to create was a djinn. 

Now with the details for the face and hair decided I then went in hunt for clothing. The mesh arm and hand wrappings in use for the image I have had and used for some time, and were perhaps not necessary to create the look, but I rather like them, and I tend to run by that. :) For the clothing I did quite a bit of jumping through the more well known RP clothiers, but eventually ending up in Moon Sha, which at first seemed to be a store full of houses, furniture and various items for medieval, yet the second floor surprised me pleasantly with a few outfits, which I knew I had to buy.

Then the final step, finding a place to take the pictures. I've always enjoyed visiting Elven Forest as, with it's different areas, it has almost anything I might require for a background (provided I do not need a modern city scene). 

And with this, another outfit was created, along with the perfect excuse to hunt down lots of new clothes I may or may not end up using more than once.
